History: AMREP Corporation purchsed 55,000 acres of land in the early 1960s just on the outskirts of Albuquerque.  This was the beginning of Rio Rancho, originally called Rio Rancho Estates. It has evolved drastically over the years with a new master planned communities such as Diamond Ridge, Loma Colorado, Northern Meadows and others. In 2005 the city officially announced its plans for a central business district (City Center) 160 acres of land that now is home to Santa Ana Star Center and Rio Rancho City Hall. With plans for upscale retail, office, dining, and entertainment it will be the regions premier destination. Today the population stands at about 62,000 and offers a diverse community.
